In order to maintain and promote the "self-inflating" effect, a new mat should always be rolled out for some time before travelling. Please inflate the mat slightly when you first open it and then leave it unrolled for a few days with the valve open. This allows the foam in the mat to expand. Before travelling, roll the mat up tightly - with the valve open, of course. Close the valve. The mat is compact and ready for travelling. At your destination, open the mat and leave it with the valve open. This allows it to draw in air and literally "inflate" itself. Before going to bed, inflate the mat a little to make it a little harder, close the valve and enjoy the comfort and insulation.
