Gaiters prevent snow, dirt or even wetness from penetrating into shoes and trousers. Short gaiters are more comfortable and are generally sufficient for hiking or walking on paths and roads. Whether in undergrowth, in wet grass, in the desert or as protection against snow, rain and vermin (ticks!). The gaiters helped and still help to keep the foot, leg and also the trousers clean and dry during work and adventure. Gaiters should not be too large to avoid tripping hazards. Particularly in combination with crampons or crawling, caution is advised.
