Calzados FAL was founded on 5 April 1965 in the town of Arnedo in the La Rioja region of northern Spain. In 1995 the company marked a milestone. In that year Calzados FAL saw a definite boost for its products when it signed a contract with W. L. Gore and Associates that allowed its boots to include world-renowned Gore-Tex® membrane, which has revolutionised the panorama of the textile industry thanks to its unique properties of waterproofing and breathability. Calzados FAL is one of the few footwear makers specialising in outdoor activities that are licensed to include the Gore-Tex® membrane in their products. The activity of Calzados FAL is centred round the production and marketing of two highly distinct product lines: outdoor footwear (hiking, trekking, trail-running, travel etc.) and footwear and clothing for hunting. Calzados FAL, S.A. has obtained the ISO 9001 certification, which certifies the implementation in all its production processes of the “Quality System”. FAL also has an implemented and certified Environmental Management System under UNE-IN ISO 14001, a system that is integrated in the Quality Management System in accordance with the directives promoted by the European authorities. The implementation of the ISO 14001 makes it possible to define the most significant environmental aspects and impacts in the company, to set targets and goals for environmental improvement, to set up programmes in this area, and to define the policy of the organisation towards the environment Moreover, Fal has the OHSAS 18001 certification, which is a voluntary standard that sets the requirements for evaluating and certifying the management system for health and safety in the work place. In 2012 Fal took a further step forwards in its commitment to the environment and obtained the certification of “CO2 Controlled Carbon Footprint” from AENOR, which is a voluntary standard for implementing a strategy for reducing and/or compensating for CO2 emissions and thus its environmental commitment.
