Brian Vargo, the founder of Vargo, wanted to undertake a hike on the Appalachian Trail in 1995. At that time he had no equipment. So he bought everything he thought he had to take with him. In the 5 months it took Brian to walk the way, a lot changed for him. As it turned out, the many items of equipment he had bought for the journey were much too heavy. He was convinced that things had to get better. And so it just happened. Not long after his return, Brian launched a website to share his experiences and give and receive advice on hiking and backpacking. Not taken for granted then. He didn't see it as his profession, rather as a passionate vocation. The blog was a way of connecting with like-minded adventurers, asking questions and answering them. So it went fast until 2002, when Brian decided to try his hand at e-commerce. In reviewing the outdoor equipment market, Brian noticed a significant gap. He wanted to focus on ultra-light, incredibly durable products for backpackers, hikers and all kinds of outdoor people. His aha moment came, unsurprisingly, on a hike. High-quality titanium, known for unparalleled strength and durability, was to be the basis for his new generation of outdoor equipment. Vargo was born. First came a spork, a stove and a tent herring. They met with great enthusiasm. Both the distributors and the users were enthusiastic.
